Credentials

Licenses:
I am a Psychotherapist licensed by The Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) as well as a registered Art Therapist (ATR) with the National Art Therapy Credentials board.

Post-Graduate Work:
My post-graduate work includes three years at The New England Center for Existential-Psychoanalytic Therapy, training in Internal Family Systems with founder Dick Schwartz, and Level 2 training at Massachusetts General Hospital in their “Think Kids” parent/child collaborative problem solving methodology.  Additionally, I have had substantial course work in counseling Couples and in the Mind/Body connection, including Focusing and Mindfulness.

Master of Arts:
After a three-year graduate program at Lesley University (Cambridge, MA), I received a Master of Arts in Expressive Therapies with a specialization in Art Therapy. I completed two year-long internships in Massachusetts: working with elementary school students at The Gifford School in Weston and with families at Arlington Youth Consultation Center.  Additionally, I was awarded an internship at Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg Hospital near Cape Town, South Africa, where I provided art therapy to patients in the hospital and in Tygerberg’s outpatient and hospital school programs.

Bachelor of Arts:
As an undergraduate, I was an honors student in psychology at both Wheaton College (MA) and at Rutgers University where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Art Experience:
As an artist, I work in ceramics, painting, printmaking, and photography, as well as a variety of media. I received art training from a number of colleges, art and design institutions, including Wheaton, Harvard, Rhode Island School of Design, and Paris American Academy.  I exhibit and sell my work nationally and internationally. I worked with leading design consulting firms and ran my own gallery in Cambridge before returning to psychology and clinical work as a full-time career.

Research & Presentations:
I have been on two research teams for wellness studies: one as an art therapist analyzing patient drawings at Children’s Hospital, Boston, as part of their Pawprints study to determine the benefit of therapy dogs; and another at the F. Holland Day Foundation for Creativity and Healing, Cambridge, as part of a retreat center intervention study with breast cancer patients which included art and expressive therapies. Prior research topics in the area of social psychology include career stereotypes, assessing causality, and self-disclosure.

At Tygerberg Hospital (S. Africa), where I worked with young patients during my internship, I presented my art therapy results at the workshop, ”Providing Culturally Competent Care in the Aftermath of Violence and Psychological Trauma.”
